It’s almost Christmas and that means it’s time for Essie’s Valentine’s day 2023 collection (LOL). Let me start by saying this is not your average Valentine’s day collection. Essie has this to say about the collection: ‘Inspired by the best breakup you’ve ever had, the limited edition essie valentine’s day 2023 collection is all about an empowering self-romance. with each shade, experience a radical self-love rush that will empower you to flirt with freedom.’
I’m usually not that into Essie’s Valentine’s day collections, mainly because I don’t like the sweet romantic theme that much, however, I love this anti-Valentine/break-up theme. The colors are very interesting; some are ‘typical’ Valentine’s day shades, and some are definitely more interesting and not what you would expect based on previous years. Maybe the collection is not for everyone, but I love that they make an exception once!
The collection will consist of six new shades:
- License to thrill (a deep cobalt blue with red undertones and creme finish)
- U wish (mid-tone red with shimmer)
- Fuel your desire (an iris purple with red undertones and a creme finish)
- Flirt with freedom (blackened purple with a shimmer finish)
- Burning love ( rich, muted coral with red undertones and a creme finish)
- no ex-Pectations (a cool, deep gray with purple undertones and a creme finish)
As you can see in the picture above, the collection will have some decorations on the bottle. However, this will sadly only be for the US bottles. It has some typical Valentine’s day shades like ‘Burning love’, and ‘U wish’, but the other four shades are very different from previous years. Personally, I haven’t been this excited about an Essie collection in quite some time. I’m really happy that they went for something else because although I love Essie’s reds, I wasn’t ready for another Valentine’s day collection filled with pinks and reds. So far, I have purchased Fuel your desire and Flirt with freedom (swatches coming soon), but License to thrill also really speaks to me.
The collection is now available over here on Amazon (affiliate link).

I’m a sucker when Essie puts decorations on the handles! The colors I want to check out are ‘flirt with freedom’ and ‘no ex-pectations’
Unfortunately, these decorations almost never make it to Europe, but I also love them! I will definitely be picking up ‘flirt with freedom’. ‘No ex-pectations’ and ‘License to thrill’ also seem very interesting. There go my new year’s resolutions!!
