I hope that you are all doing all right. I never really wrote anything about doing gel nails at home on my blog. Gel polish and I have a bit of a difficult relationship. Sometimes we were succesfull together, and sometimes it was a disaster. Although the COVID-19 pandemic is still going strong, salons over here are slowly opening their doors again, but I still like to do my (gel) nails myself, and I find this the right time to share this. I have a couple of reasons for this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I&#8217;m able to work quite quick, so doing my nails myself saves me a lot of hassle and time.<\/li><li>Once you have all the equipment it is cheaper to do gel nails at home than in a salon.<\/li><li>You can do it exactly the way you like.<\/li><li>Currently I find it safer to do my own nails at home.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course these reasons are all quite personal, but I know a lot of women feel the same way. I&#8217;m usually using this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B07N68TJJ6\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B07N68TJJ6&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;linkId=df3161277d8128efad8045bb17fd66b6\">cuticle pusher<\/a> (affiliate link), or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B07DLLMX3Q\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B07DLLMX3Q&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;linkId=3a16a90a8e88b07463beb3f1a3c80a1c\">orangewood sticks<\/a> (affiliate link).<\/li><li>Make sure your nails are fat free before applying the polish. You may use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B005XMZVVS\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B005XMZVVS&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;linkId=ef1a19b0debb8276abfc59b273b018ee\">special cleaner<\/a> (affiliate link) or just rubbing alcohol (be careful though).<\/li><li>If you paint on your finger or cuticle, remove before curing. It won&#8217;t last as long if you leave it there.<\/li><li>If you&#8217;ve had problems keeping your gel polish on, try using more primer. When you have problems removing, try using less primer or skip the primer next time.<\/li><li>If you keep having problems of the problem popping off, you might want to give your nails a very light buff before applying the primer.<\/li><li>You can combine products from different brands, however if you keep having problems you might try sticking to one brand, in order to make sure the formulas match well together.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gel polish Brands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve used four different types of brands for gel nails at home so far, Masura (a russian brand), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;keywords=sensationail&amp;index=aps&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=4ecfb3bd3767b026c7731198b85c170d\">Sensational<\/a>, Impulss and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;keywords=alessandro striplac&amp;index=aps&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=fb368b7c1fbf985896bb1d335f034ace\">Alessandro striplac<\/a> (affiliate links). I also have experience with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;keywords=opi gel color&amp;index=aps&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=3167fe38feb66d9741d4c5bf412bb604\">OPI Gel Color<\/a>, because the nail tech I went to used this (affiliate link). With Sensational and Impulss I have good experience for staying power but when I cured them they have a lot of shrinkage. Masura was nice but a bit difficult to remove. I am using the color Good Spirit (from their new Northern Beauty collection), but I did not buy their top coat and used one from Masura (I had no problem doing this). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I started I used the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00BV90F18\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00BV90F18&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;linkId=8fd9417d6ea8b3b5c260b1361b6e4004\">Sensationail primer <\/a>around the edges (affiliate link). Because Good Spirit is such a light color, I had to apply two coats. I cured it under an Essence LED lamp, which is unfortunately no longer available, but you might check <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;keywords=nail lamp&amp;index=aps&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=3310c476f5c4b53d72c6ecf19b350999\">here<\/a> for alternatives (affiliate link). Finish with a gel top coat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alessandro Striplac<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Alessandro completely changed their striplac line. I used to hear complaints that their polish didn&#8217;t last very long, and that&#8217;s why I never bought it. However, since they changed it and Good Spirit is super pretty, I gave it a try. I&#8217;ve worn this polish for 10 days and then I got tired of it. I think it would have easily reached 14 days. You can remove the polish by using Alessandro&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B07R3X5465\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B07R3X5465&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;linkId=f4707b165184f9712b57e5afaea49c55\">peel off activator<\/a> or their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B07R4WD5XK\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B07R4WD5XK&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=noae0f-20&amp;linkId=52f190b0cd66dd533f4ae3262b2827a6\">soak off <\/a>soluation (affiliate links). But, this is the first gel polish I am super satisfied with! I definitely recommend the Alessandro colors. I really enjoy the color of Alessandro good spirit; it even contains tiny shimmer!
